Voss/Wagner to Present Funds for Local Bergen County Preservation, Recreation Projects

On Tuesday, September 8, 2009, Assemblywomen Joan Voss and Connie Wagner will present ceremonial checks representing state funding for three Bergen County towns in their district to create recreational areas for residents. A measure sponsored by Wagner was recently signed into law to provide $120.12 million in voter approved funding for open space preservation efforts. The law allocated funding for projects in Fort Lee, Edgewater and Fair Lawn.

“In a county as populated as Bergen County, these tax dollars will go a long way in protecting community spaces. It is important to make every effort to preserve as many recreational and open spaces as possible for use by future generations,” said Wagner (D-Paramus). “These projects demonstrate how important it is for voter approved tax dollars to be used for projects that benefit their families. Our local recreational facilities are the center of our communities and should be preserved,” said Voss (D-Fort Lee). Check presentations will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at:

  • 10:00 am between Fletcher Avenue, Lewis Street and Linwood Avenue in Fort Lee. The municipality will receive $110,000 for improvements to Constitution Park.
  • 7:00 pm at 916 River Road at Edgewater Boro Hall in Edgewater. Erosion on Veteran’s Field will be fixed with $741,655 in state funding. The town is building a Hudson River Walkway, however, the erosion must be first fixed in order to build the walkway.
  • 8:00 pm at 8-01 Fair Lawn Ave at Fair Lawn Boro Hall in Fair Lawn. The town is choosing between preserving the Naugle House or Daly Field with the $750,000 appropriation of state funds.

Assemblywomen Voss and Wagner represent the 38th Legislative District which includes parts of Bergen County.
