With the rising cost of food, prescription drugs and utility bills, we truly understand the challenges facing seniors living on fixed incomes. That’s why we’ve been working to provide immediate relief – and secure a bright future for Bergen’s seniors.
Last Friday, October 16, we held a telephone town hall with seniors throughout the 38th Legislative District discussing some of the many things that we have been doing to alleviate the stresses on seniors, including:
From The Paramus Town News
TO THE EDITOR:
This year we are asked to vote for an Assembly representative for the 38th District in Bergen County. Currently we are served by Paramus’ Connie Wagner.
I’ve known Connie for over 30 years and Connie is one individual I hold in the highest regard. She is full of passion and Commitment. As in her past years as Paramus High School guidance counselor, she worked hard for her kids, all 1,600 of them.
She entered into politics to serve her community to which she lived and loved so much, Paramus. She is a hometown person, who enjoys concerts at the band shell, Friday night football games, and other community events, never without a smile and always full of encouragement.
PARAMUS — A proposed borough ban on the indoor use of electronic cigarettes could be emulated by the state and Bergen County, making New Jersey one of the first states in the country with legislation against the device marketed as a healthier alternative to smoking, lawmakers said today.
TRENTON- Senator Loretta Weinberg today slammed Republican gubernatorial candidate Chris Christie for pushing a plan for “mandate-free” policies that would allow insurance companies to drop coverage for mammograms from women’s health care plans across New Jersey.
“If we don’t require insurance companies to cover mammograms, they won’t. Period. That is why we battled against the big insurance companies to enact these mandates in the first place,” said Weinberg. “The American Cancer Society helped lead the fight for the mammogram mandate because mammograms are a crucial defense against an insidious disease. Mr. Christie is either lying or he fails to understand the implications of his own policies. Either way, he has once again shown that he is wrong when it matters most.”
College is back in session, but unfortunately for many parents that means they are spending sleepless nights at the kitchen table trying to figure out how to pay the tuition bill. We are fortunate in New Jersey to offer an outstanding array of colleges, but the turbulent financial times make it increasingly difficult to afford higher education.
Democratic Assemblywomen Joan Voss and Connie Wagner today received the support of Planned Parenthood – a leading advocacy organization that pushes for quality women’s health care services and reproductive rights.
The Assemblywomen thanked the Planned Parenthood Political Action Committee and pledged to be consistent supporters of women’s health by opposing any effort to turn back the clock on reproductive health issues.
Former educators who now serve in the State Legislature – Assemblywomen Joan Voss and Connie Wagner – will briefly return to the classroom this week to celebrate National Legislator Back to School Week. Both assemblywomen will speak to students about becoming actively engaged in their communities and the role of New Jersey State Government in the everyday lives of Bergen County families.
On Tuesday, September 8, 2009, Assemblywomen Joan Voss and Connie Wagner will present ceremonial checks representing state funding for three Bergen County towns in their district to create recreational areas for residents. A measure sponsored by Wagner was recently signed into law to provide $120.12 million in voter approved funding for open space preservation efforts. The law allocated funding for projects in Fort Lee, Edgewater and Fair Lawn.
Assemblywomen Joan Voss and Connie Wagner will visit Bergen County senior centers this week to help eligible senior citizens through the application process for the Senior Property Tax Freeze Program. The legislators also urged homeowners to apply for the Homestead Rebate program.
The deadline for residents to apply for both programs was recently extended to November 2, 2009.
On August 13th, a bill will be signed that will ease the plight of families dealing with a child on the autism spectrum. I am a prime sponsor of (A2238/S1651) which requires health benefits coverage for certain therapies for the treatment of Autism and other developmental disabilities.
The Autism spectrum is very diverse. Basically, no two cases are exactly alike and the treatments may include speech , physical ,and occupational therapy, behavioral interventions, socialization skills, communication skills and psychological counseling among the strategies to assist these youngsters to achieve their highest potential.
